MLB Lock Out Continues

The saga of the Owners versus the Players in the MLB contract dispute. Its sad to say that there doesn't seem to be an end in sight and with that being said we might not get a season this year. If the trend continues we are going to miss a season which hasn't happen since 1990. As always the biggest issue which tends to be the biggest issue with any sports origination is how they are going to divide money between the owners and players.

The biggest issue that the players care about is Free agency to start earlier for players so they have a chance to get their big pay day while still at their prime. The players want free agency at 29.5 years of age if they've achieved five years of service time, or simply after six years of service time, whichever comes first. I don't think this is unreasonable of an ask consider when a player comes up from the minors we always see the clubs always try to find loopholes in order to keep a player under their control for longer periods of time before they can even test the free agent market.

The owners want to do away with Super Two status -- players in the upper 22% of service time who have more than two and fewer than three years in the big leagues -- and replace it with an incentive-based program for all players with at least two years of service time. If this happens this would give the owner even more control over a player's future. Super Two is a designation that allows a select group of players to become eligible for arbitration before reaching three years of service time.

Personally this is a situation of millionaires versus billionaires. At the end of the day the real losers in all of this is us the fans. The rich want to get richer and the richer want to stay rich. That being said Baseball continues go slip more and more down the ranks of watch sports. If things like this continue Baseball will slip from the number 3 sport in America and will probably be replace by either Hockey or Soccer which continues to gain ground here in the United States. Hopefully Baseball can get it's act together and come to an agreement so we can enjoy the sport once again.
