January kicks off with new music from Doechii and SZA. The song addresses a common struggle: burnout. The exchange between Doechii and SZA reflects an internal dialogue during challenging times when you lack the energy to face the next day after a night spent in tears. This track serves as a wake-up call, reminding us that feeling burnout doesn't make us weak. We've endured the pain long enough, and it's time to rise, move forward, and embrace being a work in progress to reach our goals.
I appreciate how they create a dynamic of fire and ice, complementing each other. Doechii embodies the fearless aspect of being a woman, while SZA represents the calmness, emotional truth, and growth. The music video has no flashy narrative but it shows that healing is repetative, quiet and will take you out of your confort zone. Back to the fire and Ice dynamic Doechii's tight frame and erratic thoughts to symbolize the mental overload and the internal conflict from being overstimulated . While SZA's scenes are more opened and is the calm before the storm symbolizing emotional regulation, self compassion and that moment when the tears stop falling down.
My ladies out there make sure you show up for yourself and get up!
