B.Ankha, one of NYC’s rising independent R&B artists, follows up her debut L.I.F.E with Heard U: Bloom Season. The album showcases her growth, authenticity, and emotional connection, proving why she’s one of the most exciting voices in modern R&B. Before exploring the album and its specifics, it's essential to recognize B.ankha's accomplishments. Her transformation from an ordinary girl to one of New York City's leading independent artists has been extraordinary. Since her debut release, B.ankha has been relentless, always focused on her objectives. Her first album, L.I.F.E (Life in Full Effect), not only reflects her nine-year journey but also laid the groundwork for the excellence she continues to deliver through her music and her steadfast determination. This drive has led her to headline at SOB's, open for Fergie Baby, and even achieve over 50,000 views on her "On The Radar" debut. She has progressed from showcasing her versatility to establishing her identity as an artist both in sound and theme. Heard U : Bloom Season was released on all digital streaming platforms on October 10th, and the ten-track project captivated us starting from the lead single Proud. When she shared something Rawrrzone had posted, she mentioned, "This project was for everyone's heart; let's mend them."
"If I'm gone tomorrow Won't let them fake flowers crowd me make sure they don't count me out you see Wear it on my sleeve so proudly all 365 I could only be myself speak loudly Tried & I tried No I can't keep the miserable round me Visions of jealousy crowding No I can't fold"
For many that really don't know back in January I almost died of complications from diabetes in a room with the only support I had was my mother and one of my oldest friends who was one of the nurses on the team that kept me from losing any more fluids. All that was in my mind was who was there, or in that case who wasn't and how i allowed others to dim my light when I was doing everything in order to make others happy and forget my own. I forgot who I was and what I was capable of. I bring this up because listening to Proud brought me back to that night when I thought it was all over, and I was saying my goodbyes to my brother in Greece sending messages to friends to promise me that if my health took a worse to not have those that ruined me at the services. Im so lucky I had the opportunity to live my life because I am chasing my dreams and i started to become more of who I was back in 2019 before everything really fell apart.
Proud is that statement for those who went through the depths of hell and overcome it. It empowers the listener to be proud of the journey and to not let someones miserable son or daughter take advantage of you and your worth. Not only is this the most appropriate intro to the project we feel like this is the top song of the project not just in meaning and storytelling but listen to the vocal range that shes projecting through the entire song, the delivery is deliberate and strikes through the heart and was the perfect song to lead this new era of her musical journey.
The album features a blend of soulful rhythms that reflect her growth from both a personal and professional perspective. Don't Worry and To The Sky evoke the era of Cater 2 U by Destiny's Child or the early vibes of SZA, with their warm and emotional delivery. Her harmonies lend an organic feel, capturing the essence of standing by someone and experiencing love for the first time. Don't Worry is a vow to always be a steadfast partner, while To The Sky conveys the sensation of falling in love for the first time and the comforting belief that love can conquer anything
Better and Dumb while some critics feel the songs fell short in the overall scheme of the project I feel like people overlooked the storyline of the project. As we said earlier on in the article B.Ankha was catering to mend every heart. Better and Dumb fall into the category of when the rose colored glasses are shattered and the reality of the relationships arent as bright as it may look or when just life doesnt end up your way. Its taking you through the stages of grief in a way.
Tainted and Wasted Time resonate deeply with those moments in life when the heart experiences the profound ache of heartbreak. These songs encapsulate the complex emotions that arise not only from the end of a romantic relationship but also from a painful introspection about one's own identity in the wake of such loss. The lyrics explore the multifaceted nature of grief, which extends beyond the surface of lost love to touch upon the very essence of who we are and who we believed ourselves to be within the context of that relationship.
When a relationship crumbles, it often leads to a cascade of feelings, including sadness, anger, and confusion. This betrayal can lead to a reevaluation of one's self-worth and can evoke memories of happier times that now feel tainted by the pain of loss. The songs articulate this turmoil, capturing the essence of feeling wasted—not just in the sense of time lost, but also in the emotional energy expended on a relationship that has ultimately failed to thrive.
Moreover, the themes of these songs delve into the idea of nostalgia, where the past is viewed through a lens of both fondness and regret. As one reflects on the moments shared with a partner, there is often a struggle between cherishing those memories and grappling with the hurt they now bring. The contrast between love and pain forms a touching story that resonates with many, emphasizing the common experience of heartbreak.. In this way, Tainted and Wasted Time serve not only as anthems for the heartbroken but also as cathartic expressions that allow listeners to process their own experiences of love and loss.
Ultimately, these songs remind us that heartbreak is a complex journey, one that involves not just the grieving of a relationship but also a deeper exploration of one’s own vulnerabilities and desires.
In conclusion, this project was dedicated to all the hearts in need of healing and to all the souls experiencing each of these situations. B Ankha demonstrates that R&B is constantly evolving and deeply emotional. Let's keep boosting these numbers! If you haven't yet, what are you waiting for?
