- JD EICHER CELEBRATES TWO DECADES OF MUSIC WITH 20-YEAR TOUR
Ohio-based indie rocker and songwriter JD Eicher is celebrating a remarkable milestone—20 years of writing and performing original music—with a special fall U.S. tour that will showcase both his intimate acoustic shows and the full-band energy that has defined his career. The 20-Year Tour kicks off September 18 in Cleveland, OH, and will travel through major cities including New York, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis before wrapping up on November 20 in Columbus, OH. Eicher will be joined by longtime collaborators Dylan Kollat (drums) and Jim Merhaut (bass), as well as a roster of special guests throughout the run, including Jesse Ruben, Steve Everett, and Aaron Newsome. Reflecting on the journey, Eicher says: “At the end of high school and into college (20 years ago!), I started playing my original songs for anyone who would listen. Coffee shops, garages, fields across Pennsylvania—it didn’t matter. The joy of writing and performing was the pursuit, and it still is. This tour is a chance to celebrate the journey—the new songs, the old songs, and the people who’ve kept this project alive by showing up.” Known for his expressive vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and indie-pop sound, Eicher has built a career that bridges intimate storytelling and anthemic full-band moments. His music has taken him across the U.S. and abroad, sharing stages with Coldplay, Train, Maroon 5, The Zombies, and more. In 2016, he was selected by bestselling author Nicholas Sparks to provide the soundtrack for Two By Two , with the title track featured on Good Morning America . The 20-Year Tour comes as Eicher prepares to release the final single from his multi-year self-produced project in late 2025, with a new full-length album set for early 2026. Tour Highlights: Sep 26 – New York, NY – Mercury Lounge (w/ Jesse Ruben) Sep 28 – Tysons, VA – Capital One Hall (w/ Jesse Ruben) Oct 3 – Akron, OH – 20th Anniversary Full Band Tour (w/ Jesse Ruben, Angie Haze) Oct 11 – Arlington Heights, IL – 20th Anniversary Full Band Tour (w/ Steve Everett) Nov 20 – Columbus, OH – 20th Anniversary Full Band Tour (w/ Christian Lopez) Tickets and full schedule available at: jdeicher.com/shows

- Community Spotlight: Baby D’s Snaxxx N’ Shit
When I tell you I was lifted to another ozone layer after eating half of one of these cookies, it is not an exaggeration. The high I experienced was not only whimsical, but soothing to my joints. It all started at a barbecue. It was a calm Saturday evening in the park. Basketball tournaments were stirring, the children were playing carelessly in the playground while the adults chattered on the park benches. The group of friends I was with were enjoying a grilled feast. After the eating, laughter and catching up, we were presented with a treat. Someone started passing around a ziplock bag full of cookies. Now, I love a good cookie so that sold me right there. As I looked through the pack for the satisfying flavor of my choice, I found “The Big Back Biscoff”. I had to try it. It was thick. It was soft. Baked into the center was a giant rolled biscoff. The first thing that hit me was the aroma. Omg. The potency of the cannabis did not override the perfect taste of the ingredients. The combination had me in a swoon. It was so good I went past my better judgement and ate the entire half of the cookie. I could feel my body relaxing into a dreamscape. As the night ended, we all went our separate ways but the high continued to roam through my body. As I sat in the Uber, the high took over in a wonderful way. All the sleep I had to catch up on from working long weeks came crashing down gently. My sleep was priceless that night. I recommend this edible to anyone with joint pain and sleep issues. Thank you Luccy Flawless. Go support her and all of her pastries !
- Ron Karona Releases 'Life or Death' LP & Interview
Ron Karona, an emcee representing VA and Philly, recently released his album ‘Life or Death’ produced by Antagonist Dragonspit. True to authentic Hip Hop, Karona showcases an emotive performance filled with sharp wordplay and storytelling laced with gritty undertones. Tap in below for more on the album and what’s next for Ron Karona. MJ: Before we jump into the new album, let the world know who Ron Karona is, and tell us about that moment when "pen and mic" ignited something in you. RK: I started rhyming and writing lyrics and poetry when I was 14 or 15, around 1995/96. By high school, I was taking it more seriously than school almost. I always had this feeling that I would end up doing something with music. MJ: When speaking to artists from various locations, I pick up on different vibes when it comes to Hip Hop and the culture. What's your take on the scene in VA and Philly? RK: Both VA and Philly have incredible Hip Hop scenes. I’m going to speak about Virginia because I’m more familiar with it. When I got to VCU in Richmond, VA, in 1999, I was exposed to the most Hip Hop talent I had ever been around. Emcees, DJs, producers, etc. It was like boot camp for Hip Hop heads; all we did was cipher up, listen to beats, and sharpen our skills. That scene in VA is still going strong. Big shoutout to profound79, Fan Ran, Mike Wunda, The One Who Knocks, 703 to the 757 MJ: You're a seasoned artist in the game, and your music is widely received and respected. What's your recipe for creating shelf-less music? RK: The recipe for me is to read a lot; all kinds of books all the time, and then diversify the music I listen to so I’m absorbing all this different stuff into my subconscious. Then, when I get a dope beat and start writing to it, I have all this stuff I can pull from. I also record prolifically; I did about 75 tracks last year .MJ: Let's dive into the new album 'Life or Death.' Give some inside scoop from concept to production. RK : The album is pretty much a year’s worth of me recording over Antagonist beats. We didn’t really plan it out. One day in May, we talked about putting out an album of just me rocking antagonist beats, and a day later, it was done. I did about 25 tracks, and then we narrowed it down. I feel like every track is strong. MJ: You have several collabs with Antagonist Dragonspit and share an incredible MC/producer chemistry. How did that relationship come into fruition? RK: We met in Richmond at VCU in 1999. He’s been a huge influence on me since. We first recorded together in 2001 and did a bunch of tracks at Depth Charge Recording (Team Demolition) in the early 2000s. He produced a ton of my tracks, and he’s a great friend and legendary emcee. MJ: What is the takeaway from 'Life or Death?' What are you hoping audiences/listeners will grasp from the album? RK: I’m virtually unknown, even though I have been doing it for a long time, so I look at the album as an introduction to myself. MJ: Do you have a favorite track off the album? Or one that hits heavier than the others? RK: My favorite tracks kind of change depending on my mood, but you can’t go wrong with “Graveyard Dogs.” The video is out now for that as well. MJ: What's next for Ron Karona? RK: Big things. But I must keep working hard. My day is coming. I've been saying that for 25 years and I still believe it. MJ: Take this time to let everyone know where they can connect with you. Instagram @ronkaroniEmail pmurph101@yahoo.com
- “Dissecting ‘NVM’: Joyner Lucas and Mýa’s Honest Conversation on Love’s Fade”
“I’m way too hurt to come down / I’m burning up on you / I’m way too lost to be found” The internet was on fire the morning of September 1st when Joyner Lucas dropped a steamy photo of him and Mya in bed with the message of a video dropping on the 6th There comes a point in a relationship, platonic or not, where we wonder if the battles can be overcome with the power of love. When Sailor Moon and all these animes lied to us about the harsh realities of life. NVM shines a light on the dark side of relationships when they aren't as strong as they once were. The haunting instrumental adds to the emotional display presented by both Mya and Lucas. The song hits multiple themes that resonate deeply with listeners, such as the evolution of love into a monotonous routine, the complex interplay between pride and vulnerability, and the struggle of not being able to take responsibility and confront the harsh truths of a relationship. In many romantic partnerships, love can initially feel exhilarating and passionate, but as time goes by, it can sometimes settle into a predictable pattern, leading to a sense of complacency. This transformation from fiery passion to a routine existence can be heart-wrenching, and it is a central theme in the song, illustrating how the spark that once ignited their connection has dimmed over time. The narrative highlights the contrast between pride and vulnerability, as both individuals in the relationship struggle with insecurities and fears, often prioritizing pride over vulnerability. This internal conflict hinders open communication about their feelings and relationship status. The term "NVM" ("never mind") encapsulates their acknowledgment that, despite their love and care, they may never reignite the initial passion they once shared. Lucas, as the narrator of this emotional journey, gives us his all, pouring his heart into the lyrics and conveying a profound sense of pain and regret. His performance is marked by an earnest vulnerability that allows listeners to connect with his struggles on a personal level. The raw emotion in his voice reflects the turmoil he feels as he navigates the consequences of his actions and the impact they have had on their relationship. His ability to express such depth of feeling in response to her reactions adds another layer to the narrative, highlighting the complexities of love, loss, and the longing for what once was. In essence, the song serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of relationships and the challenges that come with maintaining a deep emotional connection over time. "And when I'm with her I feel less alive /And I can never talk to her or specify / So all I do is stress inside / 'Cause when I tell my side she try to rectify / And I'm sick and tired of letting it slide / I knew I should've read the signs. / I wish that I was, never mind"

As if concluding the best touring career in August wasn't enough, Barsun Unique Jones, widely known as Young Dirty Bastard (YDB), makes waves with the release of his latest single, The Path Just Begun , in an official collaboration with SEGA Gaming. This track not only highlights YDB's affection for the franchise but also celebrates the Wu-Tang family's love for martial arts. - Binge Talk: Hiatus Kaiyote
Their albums do not do justice for the sonic adventure paired with extravagant lighting and stage decor experienced at their concerts. It feels like a body high for anyone who takes the time to listen to their music. Everytime they come to NY I make it my duty to purchase a ticket just to relive some of my favorite songs and listen to the new drops. In August I went to see this incredible band at the Paramount Downtown Brooklyn. The line moved quickly but once I walked inside the buzzing of other Hiatus Kaiyote fans stirred in anticipation. For those who didn’t know, The Paramount was once a school building for my alma mater Long Island University. The way it was restructured had me in awe. Soft purple lighting by the bar that walked you into the concert area on two different floors. My ticket was for the balcony because I had to get the best view of all the stage displays and lighting. It gets crazy! After purchasing my spicy watermelon margarita, I walked up the steps for what was once a way to get to class to now enjoy one of my favorite bands. What I also love about Hiatus Kaiyote is how they support each other. The opener was one of their background singers who also DJ’d and sang in a group created from them. The audience was warmed up by the end of his set for the main course. Then there they appeared with their amazing lead singer and guitarist Nai Palm. I couldn’t even control myself when they began performing. I ignored everyone around me at first but they began to rile up with me too. I would describe Hiatus Kayote as neo-soul, house with a bit of an electro touch to really brighten the keys when the mood calls. I recommend this band to anyone who loves music. You’ll see what I mean. Thank you Hiatus Kaiyote. Always.
- Rawrrzone Spotlight - SHAWTY · J.Q
It's no surprise that talent runs in the family. Riding the momentum from the Road to the Giveback, JQ absorbs all the feedback and insights he's received, striving to become a superstar in his own right. As the nephew of the Self-Proclaimed Mr. Giveback, Josh Banton returned as a special guest for our final stop and amazed the crowd. Although we at the Rawrrzone aren't particularly fond of drill culture, it undeniably brings a unique RNB flow and vibe to the forefront, especially as the artist narrates the story of a woman who is navigating through various challenges in her life. In this narrative, he positions himself as the one who is ready and willing to prove that he is the right person for her, offering support and understanding in her time of need. This emotional depth adds a layer of complexity to the track, making it more than just a typical drill song; it becomes a heartfelt declaration of loyalty and commitment. What truly makes this piece stand out is the instrumental backdrop, which skillfully intertwines elements of classic RNB and Hip Hop with a distinct drill influence. This fusion takes listeners on a nostalgic journey, reminiscent of the days when these genres seamlessly blended together to create a rich and textured soundscape. The beats are not only catchy but also evoke a sense of longing and connection, enhancing the overall theme of the song. The combination of smooth melodies with the harder-hitting drill beats creates a dynamic contrast that keeps the listener engaged, highlighting the emotional stakes of the lyrics. Furthermore, the production quality significantly enhances the track. The meticulous layering of sounds prompts listeners to contemplate their own experiences and relationships, rendering the song relatable on various levels. Everyone has someone in their life who, with their presence, would make it feel more complete. Follow him on Instagram
- Flashback Friday: Madlib
Producers are the foundation to every song on your playlist. Whether the sounds are orchestral, pop or grungy, an artist can only thrive when paired with complimentary production. I fell in love with digital audio orchestrators at 16. Repeating albums from composers such as the late J. Dilla and 9th Wonder introduced me to the wonderful world of sampling. This space was already familiar because of my parents blasting music early Saturday mornings. The soul of 70’s records was warm, bright and overwhelming. That energy exploded through the house in a way that I could never explain without smiling. Champion Sound , a collaborative project by Jaylib (J. Dilla and Madlib) , was my initial introduction to the rugged-analog sampler. I found myself enticed by his production on Mos Def, now known as Yasiin Bey's album Ecstatic . Madlib has collaborated with other legends such as the late MF Doom to produce the classic Madvillainy . In recent years, Madlib joined forces with Gary, Indiana’s rap aficionado Freddie Gibbs. The duo, MadGibbs, dropped noteworthy albums Pinata and Bandana . His collaborative discography extends longer than this page, but I really wanted to recognize the timely instrumental album “Sound Ancestors” . What I love about instrumental albums is the ability to create a storyline without influence of lyrics. “There Is No Time” starts bright and glowy as it slowly swells but rises in chimes and cymbals. I see myself lying on a bed, waking up to the sun peaking through my window shades. “Rise into the call, I’ll give my life and all” plays as an appropriate sample on this beat “The Call” . The innocent chimes play softer as the electric guitars and drums take center stage. I’m no longer comfortably laying on my bed. Instead I’m fully alert preparing to defend myself against the world even when the sun is out. “Theme De Crabtree” is lighter in energy with sweet melodies and shakers dancing over friendly drum patterns. I imagine walking down the block in my neighborhood, speaking to people passing by, watching kids play and hearing “Got to be conscious, got to be righteous” whisper to as it does on the track. “Road Of The Lonely” is the perfect title to describe the next part of this story. The melancholy strings play the emotions of every person putting their dreams before their personal relationships. The sample begs for understanding and companionship on a road less traveled. “Where did I go wrong?” Unable to dwell on the heartbreak we are greeted by the festive track “Loose Goose” . The festivities have a tendency to include cyphers in which “Dirtknock” plays the best background music. The story still has me traveling the streets until I stumble upon a hidden gem behind a building on “Hopprock” . The mysterious ambience breaks into chants, claps, and guitar plucks. It’s clear I walked into another world. Was it something someone gave me? What did I drink? What did I eat? I became momentarily relieved by the warmer ambient sounds on “Riddim Chant” . This had to be a time machine because “ Sound Of The Ancestors” took me back home. African instrumentation moved unapologetically on the intro mellowing into flutes, chimes and drums. They must have seen how nervous I was. Truly, I was overwhelmed because it felt like I was in a silent scene of a Spike Lee movie. Is that an accordion or a harmonica? “One For Quartabe” whirled me into what felt like the 80’s and glided me into a jazzy seductive mashup on “Right Now” . There was no doubt I was at a 90’s party by “Hang Out” . I almost forgot I was time traveling. Imagine being able to cypher and party with the legends that influenced you. It’s enough to make you cry. “Two for 2-For Dilla” was a beautiful ode to a pioneer in this production game. I got to see him on this. Fully aware that I’m in a whole different time period now, I begin to explore comfortably. The festivities continued with guitars and drums of a different cultural influence on “Latino Negro” . I reached the pinnacle of celebration then suddenly, I was violently sucked back into the portal on “The New Normal” . The futuristic sound was alarming at first, but began to mesh with the remnants of the portal by “Chino” . I was walking down the block with more pep in my step than before, with Aretha Franklin crooning on the record. Before I returned to my side of town, I peeked behind the building to catch another glimpse of the portal. It was gone. I would of thought I was hallucinating until I heard the African instrumentation of “Duumbiyay” reminding me that this journey does not need to be broadcasted but understood. “Sound Ancestors” is available for purchase on vinyl. Thank you Madlib .
